Project Overview

TERIC Power Ltd. (TERIC) has applied to the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) to construct and operate a 9 MW natural-gas-fired electricity generation facility (generators), accompanied by a 15.4 MW / 30.8 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) on the NW and SW ¼ of Section 36, Township 54, Range 2, West of the 5th Meridian surface location, near the town of Onoway, Alberta. The project will be located on privately owned previously disturbed land.

The project will have a combined installed nameplate capacity of up to 24.4 MW. The BESS will be used to store electricity for discharge into the local distribution system as needed, while also providing on-demand reliability support to the Alberta Electric System Operator (“AESO”). The generators will be used to provide peaking power to the local distribution system during periods of high demand, grid instability, or renewable power intermittency.

Community Benefits

The project will generate municipal tax revenue that will contribute to the tax base for Lac Ste. Anne County while requiring minimal municipal services. During the construction phase, the project will provide local jobs for electricians, equipment operators, labourers, specialized trades, site managers and engineers.

Once operational, on-going site services such as project operators, electricians, and vegetation control jobs, will be required. Additionally, the procurement of materials and local support services such as accommodations and food services for workers, will be required during both the construction and operations phases.

Stakeholder Engagement

TERIC is committed to working with all stakeholders to keep them informed of our development activities. We pledge to listen to input and to address any concerns, directly consulting with the landowners, occupants, and the residents in the area. We welcome your feedback, so please contact a TERIC representative with any questions or comments regarding the Project.

Project Update (April 2026)

On September 18, 2025, TERIC applied to the Alberta Utilities Commission (“AUC”) for regulatory approvals to construct and operate the Project. The design of the facility aimed to minimize impact to stakeholders and the environment. On March 18, 2026, the AUC issued Decision 30317-D01-2026 denying the Project application, noting that the reclamation and security proposal put forward by TERIC was not considered to be sufficient to ensure that the Project will be adequately reclaimed at its end of life.

In response to the AUC’s decision, TERIC is adjusting its reclamation and security plan to be more robust and to assume no salvage value of the assets at end of life with which to draw value for associated costs.

TERIC intends to apply to the AUC with an updated Project application including a revised reclamation and security plan based on the guidance provided by the AUC in Decision 30317-D01-2026 and recent AUC decisions. TERIC intends to file the updated application in Q2 of 2026.

The Project design and location remain substantially unchanged from the materials previously shared. Updates to the application are limited to the reclamation and security plan and finalized equipment specifications, which reflect a slightly reduced output capacity to those included in the previous materials.
